City of Kennedy

Snow Removal Policy

Due to the overwhelming demand on city crews to remove snow on roadways that are not city property, the following policy has been implemented to define the removal of snow within the City of Kennedy. These are listed in order of importance as defined by the City Council.

1. The City has a responsibility to all residents within the City to keep all public roadways free and clear from debris. The Kennedy Fire Hall and First Street will have snow removed first, in case an emergency situation should arise.

All city streets will be plowed and cleaned after the Fire Hall is completed. The City is fortunate to have most snow removed before people commute to work therefore if any snow is pushed unto a private drive, it is the responsibility of the homeowner to move that snow. *Alleys will be cleaned after everything else is finished.

In the event of an emergency, which in this case will be defined as a medical emergency and persons needing an ambulance, the city will come and remove any snow in which to allow emergency response vehicles to reach ones door step. The West Kennedy Apartments will have snow removed after the first two listed unless there is an emergency. The fee schedule for the apartments is the same as commercial as listed below.

Commercial property owners that have approached the council and agree to pay the following fees will have snow removed in the order that they have approached the council. Snow will be removed at the rate of $25.00 per hour with hours accruing each month. Commercial owners will receive a monthly statement from the City. Removal rates will be reviewed annually and are subject to change.

Residents are encouraged to obtain their own means of snow removal. If the city needs to clean any private property for residents, each person will be charged $15.00 for each time regardless of how long it takes or how much snow has accumulated. Removal rates for residential driveways will also be reviewed annually and are subject to change.
